River Road Train Tunnel - Then and Now

The River Road Train Tunnel in Yaphank as it would have looked back before the road was even paved~

Photo at RMLI Museum

Today, sadly the  less than 8ft wide tunnel is riddled with really bad graffiti and garbage. You know, if you're going to be so bold as to paint on public viewable property.. it'd better be good.

Double Your Pleasure

Can you catch lightning in a bottle twice? Kenny has a very special little motorcycle with his registered, street legal 98' Aprilia RS250 here in New York. Interestingly enough, our friend Catfish also has a NY registered RS250. To see two of them parked together on the street is quite the rare treat.

Just Play it Cool

Given this unseasonably cool weather we're having, it’s hard to believe we're in the tail end of August. Tonight was an exceptionally lovely 64 degrees. As the chilled air passed through my jacket, I felt like I was suddenly in another place in time. It won't be long now before the nights all feel this way, when the green of the leaves makes its exit and the first day back to school will be nothing more than a memory. Do you ever wish that you could just slow time down?

'Why are you standing like a Muffler Man?'

The Dukes of Hamptons

I thought for sure I'd find Roscoe P. Coltrane on the other side of the sign. He must've been chasing after those crazy Duke boys again.

Mufflerman 2.0
T u e s d a y ,   A u g u s t   1 9 ,   2 0 0 8

This is the second time in as many weekends that I've been out on the bike and spied some roadside sculpture that was made out of what appears to be insulating foam.

I was riding along and saw the muffler guy out of the corner of my eye. I pulled a quick U-y, parked my bike and walked up next to him to give him a gentle poke and take a few pictures.

As I stood there snapping a few shots I heard a car slowly creeping up behind me in the gravel parking lot. At the point that I could feel its presence about 5 feet behind me, I turned around and looked at the guy in drivers seat. He was a happy looking fellow that chuckled and said, 'I was driving by and I thought, what the heck is she doing?' He was actually quite pleasant and offered to take my picture with the MM, but I politely declined. With my luck, he'd look pleasant as he drove off with my camera

In hindsight, I find the fact that he was so curious about what I was curious about rather... curious.
